Hello Softball Families!

Registration for the 2020 Season is underway!   Early registration discount continues until Saturday, February 1.  We are eager to discover how many girls are playing this year, so encourage your friends to register as soon as possible.

Below please find some detailed information:

Player Division Ages and Schedules:

MACHINE PITCH SOFTBALL - birth years 2011 & 2012, Tentatively Playing T & Th
MINORS SOFTBALL - birth years 2009 & 2010, Tentatively playing T&Th
MAJORS SOFTBALL - birth years 2007 & 2008, Tentatively playing Interleague games M&W
JUNIORS SOFTBALL - birth years 2006 & 2005.  With enough interest, we may form a Juniors team.  Junior age players (Birth Year 2005 & 2006 ) may also play down in Majors if they do not pitch. Playing Days TBD.

Please refer to the Little League Age Chart to determine your child’s age (based upon calendar birth year, which is different than baseball!) www.littleleague.org/downloads/softball-age-chart/

Requests to play up or down a division must be made in writing to the Player Agent Melissa Boobyer, via [email protected] (attach form).  If your player requests to play up, she must attend the evaluation time slot for her desired division.

Evaluations:

Evaluations are Saturday, March 7, time TBD.  There are make-up Rec and Ed basketball games that day due to the January 18 ice day.  We are trying to schedule evaluations to have the least amount of impact for all baseball and softball players who play basketball, but it’s possible there may be some overlap.  If your daughter plans on playing up a division, she must attend evaluations at the appropriate time.

All-Star Team Interest:

All-Star Team Interest signup will be shared after evaluations. PLEASE NOTE: If your daughter plays up a division, she would play on an All-Star team representing that age and division.  For instance, a 10 year old player who plays up in Majors would be trying out for the 11u All Star Team (Major Rules). A 10 year old player in Minors would be trying out for the 10u All Star Team (Minor Rules).  District and Tournament Schedules are still TBD.

Coaching Interest:

Please indicate your interest in coaching when registering your daughter.  You may indicate multiple interests (Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager).  We couldn’t have DLL Softball without committed coaches! When our registration numbers look more complete, I will be emailing interested coaches to begin conversations about the number of teams and head coaches needed. We will likely have two coaches meetings in addition to the draft prior to Opening Day.  I really encourage attending one of the last two DLL Skills Clinics (2/2 or 3/15) and watching the drills provided. I also encourage attending the 2/29 Coaches Clinic with Chris Harrison for overall coaching tips. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. Thanks for your consideration!

Conclusion:

Whether you daughter is brand new to the game or has several years under her belt, my goal is to provide a quality experience in Dexter Little League.   I aspire for DLL softball to continue to be an outstanding educational-athletic organization, in which each player:

  1. Learns the skills, tactics and strategies of the game and improves as a player

  2. Learns “life lessons” that have value beyond the playing field

  3. Learns personal leadership skills

  4. Feels like an important part of her team regardless of performance

  5. Has fun playing the game

  6. Returns next year (& brings friends!)

I am committed to creating a culture in which coaches, parents, fans, umpires, and players work together to achieve this mission.    I hope to implement some checkpoints during the year to see how we are progressing towards our goals. I welcome your feedback as well.

It takes all of us to grow our program!  Please spread the word to your daughters’ friends about joining DLL Softball.

I hope to see you at one of our upcoming clinics!
