Introducing the 2020-21 Dexter Little League Board!

Samantha Brandt, President

I am in my sixth year on the DLL Board, and am in my second term as President. I was the information and website director for three years, and a Member at Large in 2019. My daughter played softball from MP through Majors, and was a three-time District 3 Champion. My son will be in his second year of Majors Baseball in 2021 and made it to the Final Four in the state LL Tournament for Minors in 2019. I am excited to share the fun and joy of Little League with the community!

You can find me at the fields scorekeeping on my phone, sometimes also knitting, and always with two pairs of glasses on my head.

Rick Brandt, Vice President

I have a son in Dexter Little League and a daughter that is a graduate of Dexter Little League.  My son is in Majors  baseball. I've coached at all levels of softball and baseball for Little League, and have had the honor of coaching the 10U Softball All-Star Team to a District 3 Championship in 2017 (with an appearance in the state Little League tournament in 2017), and the 12U Softball All-Star Team to a District 3 Championship in 2018. I also coached the 10U Baseball team in 2019 to a District 3 Championship and a final 4 finish in the state tournament.  This is my fourth year on the DLL board.

Ryan Kline, Baseball Commissioner
My wife Mauren and I have lived in Dexter for thirteen years and have two sons, Dallin (9) and Will (8).  Our boys have been involved in DLL for five years and I have enjoyed helping coach the past four. My son Dallin has decided to move on from baseball at this time, while my son Will, will be starting Minors this spring.  This will be my second year as a DLL board member. I’m looking forward to another great year and seeing the kids learn and enjoy the game.

Natalie Hoffman, Softball Commissioner
This is my second year on the DLL board. My daughter Vivian is in 6th grade entering eight season with DLL. My son Harrison is in 4th grade sixth season in DLL. My husband Ben also loves baseball and has coached many of Harrison’s teams.

I love softball and played for 12 years. Little League Softball brought many things to my life: a safe place to challenge both my mind and body, experiences that sometimes tested, but ultimately built, my self-confidence, a respite from the “outside” world, and lifelong friendships.  My hope is each girl that joins DLL Softball has both the challenges and support that I experienced so she too can look back on her Little League experience as a positively impactful part of her childhood.

Neale Danridge, Player Agent
This is my third year with Dexter Little League (DLL) and my second on the Board.  Both of my kids are moving up a division this year. Abby will be in Minors Softball and Cooper will be taking a shot at Machine Pitch. DLL has provided nothing but opportunities for growth and development for my family. The kids are learning a lot, including how to play baseball and softball and it has presented me with a number of firsts. I have coached (you should do this if you can), I was the Equipment Manager (also Coach and Assistant Coach), now I am taking on the Player Agent role. Each role presents its own challenges and opportunities. It is not always fun, but I am grateful for each moment.

Charlie Gagne, Treasurer and Umpire-in-chief
I have been on the Little League Board since 2003. I am now serving in Treasurer’s role for the second time (2003-2007, 2019-present). I have a son and daughter who played during 2003-2006 and I coached both baseball and softball. When my kids stopped playing, I started umpiring and became the Chief Umpire in 2009. I’ve been involved in lots of aspects of the DLL over the years. I had the honor of being the plate umpire for the 2016 State Majors Championship game.

Stacey Cappelli, Secretary
This will be my 2nd year as Secretary for the Dexter Little League board.  I was born and raised in Dexter and enjoy staying active in the community.  My son, Cayden is in 7th grade and played in DLL for many years.  My son, Casey is in 3rd grade and will be playing minors in the spring.  Between my husband, Damon and myself we have coached in Dexter Little League a total of 12 different teams.  Looking forward to a great 2021 Dexter Little League season!

Renee Shelton, Safety Director
This is my first season on the Little League Board. I played many years of softball and I was very excited to watch my daughter enjoy her first season of softball last year. My background is in Athletic Training and I am currently a Registered Nurse. The Safety Director position is a great way to be more involved in my community and support young athletes while also being able to contribute my professional experience to the role.

Patti Casavant, Fundraising and Sponsorship

After being gone for many years as I grew up in the Detroit area. I returned in 2010 and moved to Dexter with my husband Jeff and two boys Matthew and Ryan. We have enjoyed being part of this community. My son Ryan will be in his second year of Majors Baseball in 2021 and also made it to the Final Four in the state Little League tournament for Minors in 2019. This is my second year on the Dexter Little League Board. I am excited for a new year to assist the Dexter Little League program with Fundraising and Sponsorship. I also helped on the Fundraising committee last season. Previously I have been on the Board and Business member for the Dexter Chamber of Commerce as I arrived in Dexter where it fostered immediate business connections for me. I have a passion for business networking and I still love to help further the interests of local businesses! Being a good salesperson and marketer may be helpful in Fundraising but I believe there is far more to it - high energy, presence, good listener, tenacity to name a few! Looking forward to 2021!

Marie Richards, Concessions
My family and I moved to Dexter about 4 years ago and we are very fond of the community. We have two boys, Jack 13 and Wyatt 11. Both boys participate in Dexter sports. Wyatt is our baseball player and we have enjoyed participating in Dexter Little League. This is my first year on the board and I am looking forward to engaging in this work.

Matt Gibson, Communications

As a youth, Little League was an important part of my growth and development. I still lean on many of the lessons I learned from coaches, teammates, practicing, and competing. My wife Kirsten and I have lived in Dexter since 2013. We have seven children, so you will often find us and our crew at the fields, although rarely in one spot! Dexter Little League plays an important role in our lives and our wonderful community.

Ben Wheeler, Equipment Manager
My name is Ben Wheeler, my family and I have been a part of DLL for 2 years and I have coached T-ball and machine pitch.  I have enjoyed watching our sons, Nolan (7), and Wesley (8) grow and understand what being a part of a team means while in machine pitch last year.  This is my 1st year on as equipment manager and part of the board.  I look forward to being able to help and serve the program that provides so many kids with invaluable life experiences and joy.

Tom Arbaugh, Field Manager
This will be my 3rd year managing fields for Dexter Little League. I enjoy the opportunity to be involved with our community youth programs.  Our family has lived in Dexter for 8 years. My son, Brady, is in 6th grade and has been playing in Dexter Little League since Tball. He will be playing Majors this upcoming season for his final year of Little League.  My daughter, Nora, is in 3rd grade and has participated in both Tball and Machine Pitch Softball thus far. My wife, Becky, and I are former college athletes and sports has always been a huge part of our lives. This will be my 6th year coaching Little League.  Im also involved with coaching a local travel baseball team, basketball,  and football here in Dexter. Looking forward to doing what I can to always have the fields ready to Play Ball!!

Mike Cipolla, Member-at-Large

My name is Mike Cipolla. I am the father of two boys here in the district. Paul (12) and Luke (10) They both love playing Dexter Little League in the spring. I have been a coach for four seasons. I truly enjoy working with the kids and seeing how excited they become when they do something new or achieve a goal they have set. Baseball teaches us all invaluable lessons that we take out into our lives. Teamwork, perseverance, and having a positive attitude can overcome most obstacles.

I volunteer in many capacities within the district. I have coached other sports teams and I am currently vice-president on the Educational Foundation of Dexter (EFD) board. We support our amazing teachers. I love all sports and the outdoors. I will continue to work hard to make Dexter Little League and Dexter a better place for everyone.

Carrie Rettig, Member-at-large

This is my third year on the DLL Board and will be my sixth year as a DLL Mom! My family (Matt, Aaron, Scarlet-the pup) and I moved to Dexter almost six years ago and joined DLL as a way to meet and developed connections with members of this fantastic community and have been hooked ever since. Aaron is now nine years older, and he has been with DLL since he was a TBaller. Matt was a pitcher in HS & loves helping out when he can, and since I have zero baseball experience, other than being a lifelong Tigers fan, I thought it would make perfect sense to give back to DLL as a board member! So, if you can’t already tell, DLL is more than just a game our son plays. I am incredibly excited to be a part of such a fantastic organization that supports our community’s youth; giving everyone a chance to learn respect, self-discipline, how to be part of a group, social and motor skills, while at the same time allowing them to be kids and have fun!

I look forward to seeing everyone join us out on the ball field!

Rob Edgcomb, Member-at-large

This is my third year with Little League and first year with Dexter Little League. I am coming to Dexter with my two sons, Liam MacNeil (Juniors) and Cameron MacNeil. (Majors) You will see my wife, Emily, around our fields scorekeeping! We have 6 combined children from ages 10-22.

I have been active running or supporting youth organizations for 17 years including coaching baseball for ages 7-15, coaching girls and boys travel soccer for ages 9-17, and coaching boys basketball for ages 7-10. I was an active youth player in baseball and adult softball through my early thirties.  Additionally, I have experience with youth organizations as a Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and as Outdoor Activities Coordinator and committee member for a Scout troop while my now-adult son, Cole Edgcombe, participated. I have also been an original founder of a new travel soccer club, earned a MSYSA D state coaching certificate, and was a Grade 8 USYSA Soccer Referee while my now-adult daughter, Sam Edgcombe, played travel soccer. I continued coaching in a professional capacity with my daughter as an assistant for boys U10 and U15 soccer.

I am very excited to be coaching a Majors team and a Juniors team and look forward to getting a full, healthy, and warm season of baseball underway in 2021!
