Important Update on Masks and Safe Play

We have an important update on our COVID safety policies in coordination with Dexter Community Schools and the state of Michigan; these policies are in line with current MHSAA guidelines.

Since baseball, softball, and Tball are non-contact sports, players who are actively playing on the field do not need to wear masks. Per MDHHS Orders, masks must be worn at all other times by players, coaches, team personnel, and spectators.

Importantly, we need to maintain social distancing of at least six feet. COVID exposure is defined as being within six feet feet of someone with COVID for 15 minutes or more. This is irrespective of whether the person with COVID-19 or the contact was wearing a mask or whether the contact was wearing respiratory personal protective equipment (PPE).

It is extremely likely that we will have positive COVID cases in the league. The only way to minimize impact (such as shutting down teams, divisions, or even the league) is to be able to show with confidence that other players did not have exposure (15 minutes of total contact within six feet within a 24-hour window). In other words, we need the help of every player, coach, family member, and fan to maintain social distancing.

Specifically, how does this look in our league?
-- Every person needs to wear a mask at all times and maintain social distancing with the only one exception: Players may remove their mask if they are actively playing (fielding, batting, baserunning).
-- Players who are not in the game need to wear a mask and maintain six feet social distancing.
-- Players need to put on their mask between innings and maintain six feet social distancing.
-- When gathering as a team to receive instruction (such as fielding positions and batting order), coaches and players need to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
-- Spectators need to wear a mask and maintain social distancing from people not in their household.
-- After the games, we will not give fives or handshakes.
-- Those participants and spectators who do not comply will not be able to participate in league activities.

We appreciate the help and support of every member of our league and community in helping us to use these safety policies for a successful 2021 season.
